Preparing for your practical driving test involves more than just learning how to drive safely on the road. As part of the UK driving test, learners are also required to answer the DVSA “Show Me, Tell Me” vehicle safety questions. Q4: Show me how you would set the rear demister.

Answer: Operate the rear demister control button on the dashboard.

Q5: Tell me how you would check that the headlights and tail lights are working.

Answer: Switch on the lights and walk around the vehicle to check that all lights are working correctly.

Q6: Show me how you would switch on your dipped headlights.

Answer: Use the appropriate lighting control to switch on dipped headlights safely.

Q7: Tell me how you would know if there was a problem with the anti-lock braking system.

Answer: A warning light would appear on the dashboard if there was an issue with the ABS.

Answer: Press the horn control while maintaining control of the vehicle.

Q9: Tell me how you would check the direction indicators are working.

Answer: Turn on the indicators and walk around the vehicle to ensure all indicators are functioning correctly.

Answer: Adjust the heating and airflow controls to clear the windscreen.

Q11: Tell me how you would check the horn is working.

Answer: Use the horn briefly while the vehicle is stationary and ensure it produces sound.

Answer: Use the electric window controls safely while driving.
